Homemade Breakfast Smoothies Made Simple

Having a healthy breakfast is a great way to begin your day. Rather than having a high fat meal of bacon and eggs, prepare a smoothie. A smoothie is a blend of fruit that is pureed into a smooth texture. Smoothies are a great beverage for breakfast. In addition to fruit, they have other ingredients that add to their flavor. This great food item is available on the menu of many restaurants. It is served at fast food restaurants, high-scale restaurants, snack shops and other food establishments. Purchased smoothie drinks are delicious. However, they can be expensive to buy everyday. In addition, it is difficult to know the ingredients in purchased smoothie beverages.

Preparing a homemade breakfast smoothie is easy, healthy and economical. A small electric blender is the best way to make a smoothie drink. Food blenders are available in many brick-and-mortar stores or online. These small appliances are available in many different price ranges. Ask friends and relatives about the food blenders they recommend before making a purchase. Small blenders are nice for single servings or occasional use. If you are planning on having smoothies often, then a more durable and larger blender is a better choice. The more expensive models of blenders often will chop fruits better. In addition, they can crush ice easily and mix-up thicker ingredients.

Choosing ingredients to make a homemade breakfast smoothie is fun. Most grocery stores or supermarkets will have a wide selection of fresh fruit choices. Choose your favorite fruits or find new ones to try. If you are on a strict food budget, then buy fruits that are on sale. Many supermarkets also reduce fresh fruit prices at the end of the day. The reduced price fruit is a great ingredient for a smoothie. Popular fruits for this beverage include bananas, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, oranges, raspberries, melons and others. Before making the smoothie, wash the fruit thoroughly to remove dirt and other debris. Canned or frozen fruits can also be used in homemade fruit smoothie recipes. They make great choices in the cold winter months when fresh fruit is not available at grocery stores.

Remove thick peelings from bananas, peaches and citrus fruits. Pits and seeds should be removed and thrown away. Melons can be cut in half and the seeds should be thrown away. Larger fruits should be chopped or cut into smaller pieces. Other ingredients can be added for additional flavor. There are many recipes for homemade breakfast smoothies. Often the recipes use fruit juices, soy protein, yogurt, milk, sugar, ice cubes and other ingredients. In addition, there are other more unusual ingredients that can be used in some smoothie drinks. Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, peanut butter, chocolate, vegetables and other ingredients can create variety in flavors of smoothie beverages.

There are many recipes in books and online to find recipes. The recipes will provide information on the proper ingredients and measurements. It is a great idea to also have measuring cups and measuring spoons to make smoothies. A chopping board is great for cutting up the fruit ingredients. Blender containers usually have measurements printed on their sides. This helps to measure ingredients for the smoothie. Chopped fruits and other ingredients can gradually be added to the blender container during preparation. Always make sure to have the lid on the container before pushing the blender mixing buttons. Stop the blender to add more ingredients. Fruits, ice and other large pieces of ingredients must be gradually pureed and mixed.

A basic homemade breakfast smoothie will typically use a pound or less of chopped fruit. One type of fruit or multiple varieties can be used in this recipe. Gradually drop the chopped fruit into the blender, put on the lid and push a mix button. Turn off the blender when the fruit is pureed. Take off the blender lid and add an 8 ounce container of plain yogurt. Put the lid on and mix again. Stop the blender and add 12 ounces of any kind of fruit juice. Put the lid on and mix again. There are also other recipes that can be found to use different ingredients. Smoothies can be prepared in various textures or consistencies, depending on personal preference.
