I’m now writing periodically at Matador Life, the what-to-do-at-home section of Matador.com, the world’s most-read online travel magazine.
Today I have a post up about how to be your own chai wallah. The post includes recipes for two different variations of chai tea. One is more traditional, spicy and creamy. The other is easier to brew at home, and will save a lot of money if you are used to buying chai concentrate in boxes or (more expensive yet) stopping into Starbucks for your fix. Tweak either recipe to create your own custom chai.

I also make my own chai. I have eliminated the cinnamon though because it made my chai mixture goopy which I did not like. I also crush up my spices with a mortar and pestle (sp?) and toast them until just fragrant. Yum.
What is a chai wallah? is that like a Starbuck’s Barrista?
Ha, in a way! They took out my link to a beautiful blog that explains: http://chaipilgrimage.com/2008/11/28/what-is-a-chai-wallah/
This is brillant! I gave up chai concentrate because of the packaging and price and switched to chai tea bags. Now I can make chai even more cheaply with your recipie. thanks!
Just popped across to check out your blog after reading your article on Matador. Very nice! I shall be back often:-)
This is awesome, Susanna. I’m going to try this once I have the apartment to myself.
