15% off at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s today only

Word on the street is that as part of a class action settlement, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s stores are having a “customer appreciation day” today (Jan. 22, 2009) with 15% off all purchases. Personally, I’m a big fan of buying luxury sheets at these places, and that savings won’t be shabby — but our current sheets are getting that way after years of use.

IKEA shelves packaged with minimal waste, no word on adhesives

We are sprucing up our living room, and in the process of looking for a good storage solution, saw a little blurb mentioning some IKEA shelves in, of all places, Better Homes & Gardens magazine.

After a bit more research, we decided that even with shipping costs (Colorado’s IKEA store is still on the drawing boards), the shelves were a good value. We ordered them and waited….

Green (and cheap) your shipping by unpacking plastic

‘Tis the season to send gifts far, far away … and whether you’re shipping a handmade gift to your grandma, a box of donations to children in another country or (we won’t tell) an item so perfect that you averted your green AND cheap mindsets just this once, I ask you to consider your shipping supplies.

Whatever the contents, wherever the destination, whichever the shipping service, think about doing what you can to unpack the plastic and waste from your shipped items.
