Tomorrow night – March 28, 2009 – from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. your local time is Earth Hour. This is a global effort to turn off all unnecessary energy use to create a universal difference for one hour.
You can see a video about the action here:
GenGreen Life » GenGreen Wants YOU to Participate in EARTH HOUR 2009!!!.
Last year, we participated. This year, I’ll be hanging out with my spinning group, and I’m not sure we’re skilled enough to work in the dark. Will you be participating?

I’m going to try to participate, but if I don’t, I don’t feel like it’s a big deal. Quite frankly, I might be asleep at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow night after running all over Boston for work, resulting in a 50-hour workweek. That counts, right? The lights will be off.
I wondered about the possible problems related to large groups of people turning of the lights and potentially turning them back on at the same time. I have three teenagers and I spent about an hour a week (maybe less) turning off lights in empty rooms and lecturing people about energy conservation.
Thank you for letting us know about Earth Hour, which I had not heard of until I read it on your blog! I participated and forwarded your information to everyone I know. I read by candle light for an hour. Denver, however, as a city is woefully out of touch. I don’t know about the downtown area, but not one household, nor the college I live near dimmed one light. It is embarrasing when cities like Paris and Sydney participate so wholeheartedly. I saw none of this information on news programs, did I just miss it? How can we help to make Denver as a whole more aware?
I forgot about Earth Hour last year and this year I was playing my non-electric bass guitar in a show. Sigh…there is always next year.
